Caught Offside’s player ratings for Manchester United against Liverpool:
GK) David de Gea – 9.0
Outstanding performance from the shot-stopper yet again. He ensured the clean sheet and made a number of vital saves against Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli in particular.
CB) Jonny Evans – 6.0
Solid for the most part, but slightly rusty looking.
CB) Michael Carrick – 8.0
Commanding and reliable in defence, he and de Gea have been the main reason for the defensive stability.
CB) Phil Jones – 6.5
A decent performance, although it may take him a while to find his form again after returning from injury.
RWB) Antonio Valencia – 7.0
Supplied the assist for the first goal, and was a constant threat going forward.
DM) Marouane Fellaini – 7.5
The Belgian dominated in midfield, asserting himself on any and all Liverpool players around him.
CM) Juan Mata – 7.5
Lucky to not be given offside for his goal, but was unselfish with an assist for United’s third.
LWB) Ashley Young – 6.5
Provided the cross that led to the second goal, but looked suspect defensively at times.
CAM) Wayne Rooney – 7.5
An excellent performance from the captain, scored the first goal that got things going and was pressing well throughout the game.
ST) James Wilson – 6.0
Failed to really have an impact on the game, was anonymous for most of it.
ST) Robin van Persie – 7.0
Scored United’s third with a simple tap in, and kept the defenders busy.
Substitute) Ander Herrera – 6.0
Was fairly anonymous after coming on.
Substitute) Radamel Falcao – 6.0
Looked up for it when he came on, but things didn’t quite come off for him.
Substitute) Paddy McNair – N/A
A cameo appearance.
