Five Things Arsenal Need To Fear Against AS Monaco, Including Former Manchester United Ace

Many Gunners fans will be very happy with their draw…

Arsenal managed to get what looks like an easier Champions League than most on Monday. Their match against Monaco is on paper a far easier fixture than those from recent years at the same stage which have included Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

However, the Ligue 1 side won’t be a complete walkover, and here are five things that could trip the North London club up in February…

Dimitar Berbatov

Everyone in the Premier League knows the ability of the languid striker. The former Tottenham man is certainly capable of causing Arsenal’s back line problems, especially if they are still suffering from injury problems when they face each other.

A great defence

The principality based team only conceded one goal in the group stages of the Champions League, and with players such as former Chelsea man Ricardo Carvalho in the squad they could well be solid enough to keep the Gunners out.

An up and coming manager

AS Monaco are managed by Leonardo Jardim, and are his fourth club in four years. However, this rapid turnover of team has not been because of being sacked. In 2010/11 he led Braga in to third in the Portuguese top division, but left after falling out with the president. This was followed by a spell at Olympiakos, who where ten points clear at the top of their league when he controversially left. Finally he managed to get a young Sporting side to second in Portugal before leaving for Monaco. A win against Arsenal would be another good addition on his CV.

Joao Moutinho

The midfielder is the one truly great player left at the club after the sale of James Rodriguez and loaning out of Radamel Falcao. The Portuguese can create something out of nothing with his passing ability and the Gunners will have to look out for the technically great player.

Former Arsenal targets

Two former Arsenal targets play for the French side. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Lucas Ocampos have both been linked to the North London club in the past. With Arsene Wenger so clearly rating them, they clearly must have the ability to cause the Gunners problems.
