One notable example moved between the two clubs just this summer, while there are plenty of other hugely expensive players on the books and set to come up against each other in the competition at the last-16 knockout stage this season.

10) Willian (Chelsea, £25.5m)
Signed last summer from Anzhi Makhachkala, Brazilian midfielder Willian is among the most expensive transfers by both clubs at £25.5m.

One of PSG’s first big-money buys since their Qatari takeover, Javier Pastore joined for £33m and remains one of the club’s biggest investments.

Currently on loan at AC Milan, Fernando Torres remains one of the biggest wastes of money in the history of the game with his £50m transfer fee that brought him to the club from Liverpool back in 2011.

The most expensive defender of all time, David Luiz made the surprise move from Chelsea to PSG this summer for a staggering £50m, which looked like a rash way to spend that kind of money, to say the least, though the Brazilian has performed fairly well with his new club.

The most expensive signing at either club and the 9th highest transfer fee of all time, PSG striker Edinson Cavani is top of this list and will hope to look more like a player worthy of that price tag with an improved performance against the Blues this season.
