Liverpool Roundup: Balotelli Slammed By Former Teammate, Chelsea Star Wanted On-Loan And New Contract For Reds Ace

The biggest stories on Wednesday for the Reds.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech a surprise loan target for Liverpool

The Blues stopper has been a target for Brendan Rodgers for some time after being usurped from his No.1 spot by Thibaut Courtois.

However, Jose Mourinho is unwilling to allow Cech to leave permanently, but would be open to the idea of allowing the 32-year-old to leave on-loan, according to the Mirror.

Rodgers wants a new option between the sticks with growing concerns over the capabilities of Simon Mignolet.

The Reds have agreed a £3m deal for Malaga’s Guillermo Ochoa

Despite the reported interest in Cech it is apparently Ochoa who has agreed to move to Anfield after failing to establish himself at Malaga.

According to the Metro neither Mignolet or Brad Jones are considered good enough for the Merseysiders and the Mexican is being lined up as a £3m alternative.

Ochoa almost joined Rodgers’ men over the summer, but chose to head to Spain instead.

Attempts to tie Raheem Sterling down to a new deal increase as Bayern Munich become latest interested party

The future of Sterling on Merseyside remains in doubt as Bayern join the ever growing list of teams looking to sign the talented youngster, reports the Independent.

Sterling has already rejected a new contract offer from the Reds with weekly earnings of around £70,000-a-week and the club will have to increase their offer if they are to retain the England international.

The 20-year-old has greatly impressed for both club and country in recent times.

Mario Balotelli slammed by former AC Milan teammate Adel Taarabt

Since making the £16m move from Milan to Anfield over the summer Balotelli has failed to impress upon his return to England.

Now QPR midfielder Taarabt – who played alongside the striker during a loan spell at the San Siro last season – has spoken out about the 24-year-old.

“He is an ordinary player, not a phenomenon. He is someone who has a strong shot but he doesn’t play for the team. And if he does, he doesn’t score as is the case right now at Liverpool,” the Moroccan was quoted by the Telegraph.

Rodgers rejects reports of disharmony

Despite such a poor start to the season the Northern Irishman says that the dressing room remains strong under his leadership.

The Merseyside club are currently 11th in the Premier League and are out of the Champions League, but Rodgers says morale remains high.

“The actual spirit in the group is very strong. That is one of the reasons why, when we get that confidence back, then we will go into the second half of the season and be much better,” the 41-year-old was quoted by BBC Sport.
