Opinion: Arsenal Should Fix Their Entire Squad For Next To Nothing By Raiding Collapsing Russian Market

Players like Hulk, Mathieu Valbuena and many more will be available for practically nothing by next summer…

Arsenal fans have consistently bemoaned their team’s failure to address proper areas in the transfer market…

While they were left delighted at the Alexis Sanchez signing, the defence was left threadbare as the transfer window closed this summer, and they’ve paid the price.

Youngsters like Hector Bellerin, Stefan O’Connor and Maitland Niles have all been called up by Arsene Wenger. Even the rather average Francois Coquelin was recalled from his loan spell at Charlton!

But today, some news has broken from Russia that could be of huge benefit to a number of English clubs, and Arsenal especially.

Respected Russian football journalist Artur Petrosyan has claimed that due to his country’s financial crisis and the continuing decrease in value of the rouble, the big football clubs simply cannot afford to pay their big foreign stars anymore.

As a result, they will offload them extremely cheaply, and if there are no takers, they’ll simply terminate their contracts.

If Petrosyan is correct, Arsenal should be already instigating future transfer moves…

They badly, badly need some steel in central midfield, and a new centre-back. They could also do with fullback cover – and there’s even been some suggestions that a new goalkeeper could boost them, too.

In Axel Witsel, Ezequiel Garay, Domenico Criscito and Igor Akinfeev, Arsenal could fix their squad for next to nothing.

Akinfeev is a keeper, but with Colombian David Ospina battling Wojciech Szczesny for the no.1 spot, they’re probably covered here.

Witsel is a giant Belgian midfielder, who dons an afro like Marouane Fellaini, but has far more technical ability. He’s similarly destructive though, and would provide the Gunners midfield with the bite and steel it so desperately needs.

Garay only arrived during Russia this summer, but if Petroysan’s quotes are to be believed, he’ll be available too.

He starts for Argentina, has the ball-playing ability Arsene Wenger craves, and is positionally superb. At 28-years-old, having played for Real Madrid and Benfica previously, he has the experience Arsenal need to boot.

Criscito is an Italian international comfortable at left-back or centre-back. He’s feisty, quick, and loves a physical battle – making him perfect for the Premier League. Due to his versatility, he’d provide a perfect squad option to bolster Arsenal’s defence.

So there you have it. Three players, potentially available for huge bargains, who would suit Arsenal perfectly.

What’s more, they’re in a huge advantage as they can offer potential recruits the London lifestyle that helped them bring in Sanchez over the summer.

They’d be mad to not consider these stars, at least…
