Man United Skipper Wayne Rooney Says David De Gea Is The Best Goalkeeper In The World

On the back of David de Gea’s sensational performance against Liverpool for Manchester United, the Telegraph has conducted a poll in which readers have voted for the best 20 goalkeepers on the planet.

Here are the results, and a short bio on each stopper:

20) Victor Valdes – Unattached – 0.34%

Legendary Spaniard, still yet to sign for a new club having left Barcelona.

19) Rene Adler – Hamburg – 0.4%

Neuer’s backup stopper for the German national side, Adler is a wall for Hamburg, and should be playing at a higher level.

18) Diego Lopez – AC Milan – 0.44%

The Spaniard’s been excellent for the Italians since signing in the summer.

17) Salvatore Sirigu – PSG – 0.54%

The only PSG player who was at the club before the influx of money.

16) Samir Handanovic – Inter Milan – 0.58%

Slovenian stopper who’s a superb shot-stopper.

15) Fraser Forster – Southampton – 0.6%

Would be starting for England if it wasn’t for the excellent Joe Hart.

14) Marc-Andre ter Stegen – Barcelona – 0.62%

Young German can’t get in the Barcelona side right now due to form of Claudio Bravo.

13) Vincent Enyeama – Marseille – 0.66%

Only African stopper on the list.

12) Claudio Bravo – Barcelona – 0.7%

Chilean who kept 7 consecutive clean sheets at the start of this season after signing for Barcelona.

11) Keylor Navas – Real Madrid – 0.72%

Sitting on the bench behind Iker Casillas, who isn’t even on this list!

10) Guillermo Ochoa – Malaga – 0.74%

Benching for Malaga following a brilliant World Cup with Mexico.

9) Pepe Reina – Bayern Munich – 0.9%

The Spaniard is another keeper on this list who isn’t even playing for his current club Bayern Munich.

8) Wojciech Szczesny – Arsenal – 0.92%

Arsenal’s Polish stopper is still only 24-years-old.

7) Joe Hart – Manchester City – 1%

The English no.1 has two Premier League titles to his name.

6) Petr Cech – Chelsea – 1.2%

The legendary stopper can’t get in the Chelsea team because of Thibaut Courtois ahead of him.

5) Gianluigi Buffon – Juventus – 1.78%

The Italian legend is still the most expensive keeper ever purchased.

4) Hugo Lloris – Tottenham – 2.11%

The Frenchman deserves the Champions League football Spurs cannot currently offer him.

3) Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea – 4.15%

The giant Belgian will surely take the mantle one day of ‘world’s best keeper’.

2) Manuel Neuer – Bayern Munich – 24.38%

Neuer, for non-Manchester United fans, is head and shoulders above any keeper in the world. But it appears the ‘Red Devils’ vote has edged him out of top spot on this occasion.

1) David de Gea – Manchester United – 57.2%

We feel that if this poll was conducted by a German publication, the results might have been a little different! Still, de Gea’s form in recent weeks has been nothing short of sensational, but he’s not quite on Neuer’s level just yet.
