Europe’s Biggest Winners: Chelsea And Real Madrid Stars Dominate In Unique Statistic

See which players have spent the most time on the pitch while their side is in a winning position.

The “minute by minute ranking” as measured by the Football Observatory is a very interesting concept, once you understand it.

Essentially it judges a player according to whether their team is winning, drawing or losing in every minute they are on the pitch.

So a player who was brought on for a minute at the end of a game which his side was winning would earn three points, as his team would have been averaged three points in every minute he was on the field.

Conversely, a player who was brought on with his side already losing and played the rest of the game would earn zero points.

To prevent the list being filled with subs, only players who have played more than 50% of their team’s minutes are included. The list is also limited to one player a team, as otherwise this list would just be 10 Real Madrid players.

Here are the 10 players in Europe with the highest average points per minute.
