Accident prone Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones will keep his place in the starting line-up for the third straight game with Brendan Rodgers confirming Simon Mignolet will not return against Arsenal on Sunday.

Mignolet was dropped for the Reds’ derby visit to Old Trafford last week and did not return for their visit the AFC Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup quarter-final on Wednesday.

The Belgian has struggled for form all season, but there were questions raised when Rodgers chose to drop him for such a big game and these were even more pertinent as his replacement, Jones, was at fault for two of United’s three goals.

However, despite three big mistakes in two games for the Australian he will still keep his place in the starting XI.

Rodgers also revealed that Dejan Lovren, who was substituted at half time against Bournemouth, is a major doubt for the game with a groin problem.

The Merseysiders boss also said he had no illusions about another 5-1 win over the Gunners after the Reds’ demolition of the North London side last season.

“Arsenal are a top side with outstanding players. It will be a difficult game for us,” said Rodgers.
