The Philadelphia Eagles are no longer in control of their playoff destiny and so Saturday’s clash with the Washington Redskins has become must-win.

Philadelphia are 9-5 for the season and they will visit the Redskins looking to avoid their longest losing streak for 15 months after losing back-to-back home games against Seattle and Dallas.

The Eagles led the NFC East after their Week 13 win at the Cowboys, but the landscape has changed in the conference since and they are desperately trying to ensure that they make the post-season.

Now they need to beat both Washington and the New York Giants while hoping that the Cowboys slip up against either the Colts or Redskins in order to return to the top of the division. In order to secure a wildcard berth, they would need to win both games while Seattle, Green Bay or Detroit would have to lose twice.

“I don’t know if playing a scenario out in your head makes you feel better or whatever; I don’t know how that helps you,” coach Chip Kelly said. “It’s about one thing we can do and that’s go out and play against Washington on Saturday.”

Quarterback Nick Foles is not ready to return from injury and so Mark Sanchez will continue to deputise, but they will face a team that is struggling in that position even more than themselves with Robert Griffin III expected to return to being back under center.

The Eagles have won the past three meetings between the two teams, and a fourth consecutive win will be all that they are focused on at this stage as they hold on to their playoff hopes.
