Liverpool transfer news

Much has been made of some of the expensive flops brought in by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers this season, but Arsenal are also guilty of continuing to field some truly disappointing players for a club of their size.

Read on to see our XI of worst players on the books at both clubs at the moment, which includes some hugely expensive signings that have proven money poorly spent!

GK: Simon Mignolet

One of the most error-prone goalkeepers in the Premier League, Simon Mignolet has been shocking this season and finally dropped by Liverpool.

DR: Glen Johnson

A player past his best, Glen Johnson is still fairly over-rated considering his defensive ability down the years.

DL: Nacho Monreal

A player who looks out of his depth at this level, Nacho Monreal has been disappointing for Arsenal this season, though he has largely played out of position at centre-back.

Arsenal transfer news

DC: Per Mertesacker

Good last season, but Per Mertesacker really needs to up his effort and concentration at the moment after some slow and sluggish performances at the back for the Gunners.

DC: Dejan Lovren

An awful summer signing from Southampton, £20m defender Dejan Lovren has looked well out of his depth since moving to Liverpool.

MC: Mathieu Flamini

Once a top performer for Arsenal, Mathieu Flamini was re-signed from AC Milan last summer after failing to establish himself as a regular during his time at the San Siro, and he no longer looks good enough for the Premier League.

MC: Mikel Arteta

Another player whose best days are far behind him, Mikel Arteta has not been good enough for Arsenal this season and is far too limited in his play.

MR: Adam Lallana

Another disappointing summer signing from Southampton, Adam Lallana has not looked worth £25m at all and is not really a ‘top four’ club player.

ML: Mesut Ozil

Signed for £42m from Real Madrid last year, Mesut Ozil has not done enough for Arsenal and looks like a poor investment with some lazy and ineffective performances.

FC: Rickie Lambert

Yet another in Liverpool’s ill-thought-out raid on Southampton, Rickie Lambert is clearly not a player cut out for this level despite some fine form for the Saints.

FC: Mario Balotelli

One of the flops of the summer, Mario Balotelli has not yet scored a single Premier League goal since joining the Reds from AC Milan for £16m.
