Call Them Up Roy: Top Eight English Goalscorers In The Premier League, Including Liverpool And Tottenham Transfer Targets

The top English goalscorers in the Premier League so far this season…

Roy Hodgson’s most recent England selection included four strikers – Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino. Two of those players don’t make this list, and the one that ranks highest is still awaiting his first Three Lions cap.

But before we get onto the top eight, here are a list of players currently on three goals – Andy Carroll (West Ham United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ashley Barnes (Burnley), Frazier Campbell (Crystal Palace), Nathan Dyer (Swansea City), Wayne Routledge (Swansea City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal).

And now the top eight:

8) Frank Lampard (Manchester City, 4)

Retired from international duty after this summer’s World Cup with 29 goals in 106 games, but has proved during his short time with City that he is still more than capable of performing at the top level.

7) Harry Kane (Tottenham, 4)

The 21-year-old striker looks a real bright prospect, having also netted ten goals in cup competitions this season. His record for the England Under 21’s is also strong, with eight goals in ten appearances.

6) Danny Ings (Burnley, 4)

The 22-year-old has a similarly impressive record at England youth level, with four goals in seven for the Under 21’s. He scored 26 goals for Burnley last season as they earned promotion from the Championship.

5) Stewart Downing (West Ham United, 4)

The 30-year-old midfielder is enjoying one of the strongest Premier League seasons of his career, having already scored as many goals this season as in the last three league campaigns combined. Already the veteran of 35 England caps.

4) Peter Crouch (Stoke City, 4)

The 33-year-old striker, who has 42 caps and 22 goals for England but hasn’t played for the Three Lions since 2010, continued to impress, and has been recently called ‘irreplaceable’ by manager Mark Hughes.

3) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United, 6)

The current England and Manchester United captain comes in at third on our list, having impressed under new manager Louis van Gaal. He is just four away from the all-time England scoring record, currently held by Sir Bobby Charlton.

2) Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion, 7)

The goals have recently dried up for the 21-year-old, who hasn’t netted since October. However, he remains second in this list, and will be hoping he earns his chance at international level in the near future.

1) Charlie Austin (Queens Park Rangers, 11)

The QPR striker bagged an impressive hat-trick in Saturday’s win over West Brom, and he’s not behind only Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa in the overall charts. Surely the 25-year-old is close to an England call?
