Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told Gunners fans that he’s no Scrooge, and has moved to reassure supporters that he will spend money in the upcoming January transfer window.

Wenger recruited Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil, and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in two of the last three windows, and is believed to be chasing another marquee buy in the new year, with a defender also near the top of his priority list.

“There is a huge difference between the perception that people have of me and [the reality]: I’m not scared to spend money,” said Wenger, who is quoted by the Guardian. “If you go out with me one night, you will understand that.”

With that in mind, here are ten players that the Frenchman could spend big on next year:

10) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

Reports in the Metro claim that Arsenal are set to make a ‘monster’ bid to finally sign the 25-year-old Southampton midfielder in the January transfer window.

9) Christoph Kramer (Bayer Leverkusen)

The Gunners will move for the German international in January. The 23-year-old midfielder would cost £20m from Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

8) Paulo Dybala (Palermo)

The most recent reports in the Metro claim that Arsenal are ready to pass up chance to sign Paulo Dybala as Arsene Wenger baulks at huge asking price, but they could return for the Argentine if that price is lowered.

7) Petr Cech (Chelsea)

Daily Mail reports back in November claimed that Arsenal led the chase for Cech, with the Chelsea keeper available for just £7m. However, they face rival interest from both Real Madrid and Liverpool, who are also in hunt.

6) Winston Reid (West Ham United)

According to the Daily Mirror, Reid wants a huge pay day which will almost certainly see him leave West Ham. The New Zealand international wants £60,000 a week and a £1m signing-on fee, which Arsenal are seemingly willing to pay.

5) Pedro (Barcelona)

Reports in the Telegraph claim that Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pedro is ready to wing his way to the Emirates Stadium. The 27-year-old’s first team opportunities have been limited under new boss Luis Enrique, and he could move in order to secure a starting role.

4) Stephan El Shaarawy (AC Milan)

Arsenal have been told that they need to make a ‘sensational offer’ to land the Italian international from AC Milan. The Gunners though, certainly have the finances to make such an offer, and the Daily Express‘s forlorn approach might be proved wrong.

3) Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)

Recent reports in the Metro claim that Arsenal are ‘finalising’ a transfer deal to sign Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri. While those reports might be a little wide of the mark, the Swiss international is far from first choice in Munich, and could well be available.

2) Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

An old favourite that we can’t exclude. The most recent reports, this time in the Daily Star, claim that the German World Cup winner is on the verge of signing a new deal to remain in the Spanish capital, but never say never with this one.

1) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain)

Another rumour that refuses to disappear. Recent reports in the Metro claim that Cavani will ask Paris Saint-Germain to lower £50m asking price to force through Arsenal move. Will it happen? Probably not, but it doesn’t stop Arsenal fans dreaming.
