The often unreliable fichajes.net, a Spanish football transfer website, reckons that Manchester United’s Argentine phenomenon Angel di Maria has asked his manager to sign an international teammate…

Di Maria apparently wants the Red Devils to move for Nicolas Gaitan, the Benfica playmaker who also plays for Argentina.

Di Maria played with Gaitan during his time in Portugal, and is known to enjoy a close relationship with the 26-year-old.

Gaitan has a €20m release clause, which seems reasonable for a player of his undoubted ability, but Spanish giants Valencia re also monitoring his progress closely.

Perhaps more importantly, there interest is real, whereas United’s seemingly only stems from a player friendship.

What’s more, United are already jam-packed with options in this area, with Adan Januzaj struggling to get into the team at all right now.

We’d take this transfer rumour with a pinch of salt.
