Arsenal player ratings against West Ham:

GK) Wojciech Szczesny – 8

Totally dominant in the air, and was up high to pluck every single cross out of the air. Made things so much easier for his defence.

RB) Mathieu Debuchy – 6.0

Struggled with Andy Carroll’s aerial ability and Enner Valencia’s pace, was also partially at fault for the goal.

CB) Per Mertesacker – 7.0

The only player who could really challenge Carroll in the air, extremely solid defensively.

CB) Laurent Koscielny – 7.5

Arsenal’s defence looks so much stronger with the Frenchman at the back, his pace and athleticism a real positive for the Gunners.

LB) Nacho Monreal – 7.0

A decent performance by the Spaniard, although most of West Ham’s good work came down Arsenal’s left.

DCM) Mathieu Flamini – 6.5

Commanded the troops well, but was guilty of backing off when he should have pressed on regular occasions.

CM) Francis Coquelin – 7.0

His energy in midfield was a real plus today, perhaps the Frenchman does still have a future at the Emirates.

CAM) Santi Cazorla – 8.5

Another phenomenal performance from the Spaniard; involved in absolutely everything good about Arsenal today, and converted the penalty he won superbly.

RAM) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 7.0

Provided the assist for Danny Welbeck’s goal, and was constantly running. Still needs to work on his end product though.

LAM) Alexis Sanchez – 7.0

Made the wrong decision a few times, but his energy and work-rate was once again vital to Arsenal’s success.

ST) Danny Welbeck – 7.5

Welbeck looks far better up front than on the wings. He Should have done better on a couple of occasions, but his goal was the winner in the end.

Substitute) Kieran Gibbs – 6.5

Added a bit of defensive stability when Arsenal looked to shut up shop.

Substitute) Calum Chambers – 6.5

A short cameo role right at the death.
