Van Gaal is ready to move for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez, the Argentine having a £23.5m release clause writting into his contract.

With Daley Blind suffering with injuries of late and Marouane Fellaini also out of the picture of late a move for the experienced battler may be a wise one to consider in January.

Man United are set to battle Chelsea in pursuit of £25m rated Everton right-back Seamus Coleman and it’s a move that van Gaal would do well to complete.

The right side of his Man United defence is certainly an area of concern with neither Rafael or Luis Antonio Valencia impressing in the role.

Given Everton’s average start to the season one wonders if Coleman is ready to pursue a high-profile move in January.

Louis van Gaal will also look to bring in Nemanja Vidic with newly appointed Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini ready to offload the Serbian veteran on a free transfer.

Though clearly the 33 year old isn’t the same player who excelled at Man United during his nine spell at Old Trafford but the strong tackling centre-back could offer a strong presence in the short term and given the distinctly average displays put in by the likes of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling of late the addition of Vidic could help steady things at the back.
