United hoping to tempt Madrid star Sergio Ramos with offer of £105,000-a-week after tax

Louis van Gaal is looking to strengthen his defensive options next summer and has identified Ramos as a No.1 target, according to the Daily Star.

The Spain international is stalling over a new contract with current club Los Blancos and the 13-time Premier League champions are hoping to swoop in.

They will face strong competition from Arsenal and Chelsea however, with Arsene Wenger reported to have met with Ramos’ brother and agent Rene.

Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez snubs Red Devils to complete £20m switch to Valencia

Another midfield target has appeared to slip through van Gaal’s fingers as Perez decides against a move to the Theatre of Dreams and chooses the Mestalla Stadium instead.

According to the Daily Express the Argentina international will pen a deal until 2019 with Los Che after the reigning Portuguese champions agreed to lower their asking price.

This news comes just after AS Roma star Kevin Strootman said he would rather join Barcelona or Madrid over Man United.

Javier Hernandez to be used in swap deal to sign AC Milan defender Adil Rami

Another defensive option being looked at by van Gaal is Rami, with the Dutchman hoping to use Hernandez in a potential swap deal for the France international, according to the Daily Express.

The striker is currently on-loan at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but has failed to make an impact and Milan are looking for a replacement for Chelsea loanee Fernando Torres – who looks set to join former side Atletico Madrid.

Therefore Filippo Inzaghi would probably welcome Hernandez at the San Siro, whilst van Gaal gets an international centre-back to bolster his back line.

Winter break in England will only happen after a serious injury says Wayne Rooney

The congestion during the Christmas period is affecting the quality of games and is cheating the fans out of decent football, claims United captain Rooney.

His side draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday just 45 hours after beating Newcastle United and the England international says a really bad injury to a player will be the only thing that will change the fixture list.

“It will probably take someone getting a really bad injury from playing twice in two days, which no-one wants to see, but it is very demanding and I think it does need looking a,” Rooney was quoted by the Mirror.
