Bottlers: Arsenal Unsurprisingly Near Top Of Most Points Thrown Away This Season

It’s probably more surprising Arsene Wenger’s side aren’t top actually…

To no-one’s great surprise, Arsenal feature prominently on a list of sidess who have thrown away the most points from winning positions this season.

Below is a list of the company the Gunners have in this unfortunate list of top five Premier League bottlers.

5. Hull City – 11 points

It’s been a strange season for Steve Bruce’s side who have been unable to build on the success of last year where they reached the FA Cup final whilst seemingly losing a ridiculous number of points despite putting in good performances.

4. Arsenal – 11 points

Arsenal actually have Hull to thank for some of their troubles this season with the Tigers responsible for claiming two of the Gunners 11 dropped points.

More annoyingly, the 11 points Arsenal have dropped would have seen them be just two points behind Chelsea in the title race.

3. Sunderland – 12 points

Despite the 12 dropped points Sunderland still find themselves four points above the relegation zone which maybe says more about the overall quality of the Premier League rather than the ability of Gus Poyet’s side.

Particularly when you think back to their 8-0 demolition by Southampton.

2. Everton – 15 points

It’s been a difficult season for Roberto Martinez who’s side has seen a monumental drop in form and league standing from the side who almost broke into the top four last season.

Perhaps their involvement in the Europa League this season can go some way to explaining their malaise but it’s not like Everton haven’t been able to score the goals to get themselves in winning positions – it’s just that old Roberto Martinez adage of being unable to build a robust defence.

1. Swansea City – 16 points

Garry Monk’s side may have dropped 16 points but their season has hardly been a disaster with the Welsh side sitting in ninth place and winning significant scalps over the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Perhaps more consistency in defence and less questionable goalkeeping by Lukas Fabianski could see Swansea climb up to a record high in the table.
