Here BBC Sport have compiled those that could be on their way to the Emirates Stadium and CaughtOffside has decided to power rank them based on how much they are needed and how useful they would be.

14. Iker Casillas, Real Madrid

The Madrid captain won’t come cheap despite the fact his recent form has been questionable and with Wojciech Szczesny almost 10 years Casillas’ junior there is really no need for the goalkeeper.

13. Paul-Georges Ntep, Rennes

This young winger may have a great future ahead of him, but if there is one area Wenger does not need to improve it is attacking midfield and the Frenchman should be concentrating elsewhere first.

12. Petr Cech, Chelsea

It’s a similar story with Cech as it is with Casillas and although the 32-year-old would probably perform well for the next three years or so, with Szczesny and David Ospina already at the club once again funds could be better spent.

11. Fabio Coentrao, Real Madrid

With the excellence of Kieran Gibbs and the backup provided by Nacho Monreal there is probably no urgency for a new left-back, but Coentrao’s ability to also play in midfield could prove to be a deciding factor if the price is right.

10. Edinson Cavani, Paris Saint-Germain

There is no doubting that Cavani is among the best strikers in the world and it is simply the fact that the North Londoners aren’t desperate for a new forward that the Uruguay international isn’t further up this list.

9. Loic Perrin, Saint-Etienne

Central defence is a key area for improvement and this 29-year-old was highly revered in Ligue 1 last season, but his age and lack of Premier League experience would make Perrin a risky buy.

8. Tyrone Mings, Ipswich Town

Currently operating at left-back for the Tractor Boys the future of this youngster is seen at centre-back and Mings would undoubtedly be a popular buy, although he probably couldn’t go into the starting XI straight away.

7. Yann M’Vila, Rubin Kazan

Was once regarded as a real prospect in central midfield and at 24-years-old there is still time for M’Vila to turn things around, but the Frenchman’s reputation and form has been affected by his time in Russia – even if he is on-loan at Inter Milan currently.

6. Christoph Kramer, Bayer Leverkusen

The current Borussia Monchengladbach loanee has recently signed a new contract with Leverkusen and could prove to be pricey as a result, but at 23-years-old it could be worth the outlay.

5. Sami Khedira, Real Madrid

With Khedira out of contract at the end of the season and therefore possibly available at cut-price it is only the fact we consider the 2014 World Cup winner more of a box-to-box midfielder than holding player that he doesn’t top this list.

4. Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa

Like Perrin this Netherlands international is also 29-years-old and therefore you may wonder why he is so much higher up, but that is simply due to his experience in English football and proven ability on the international stage.

3. William Carvalho, Sporting Lisbon

A young midfielder who probably doesn’t have enough experience to warrant the hefty price-tags being associated with him, but at 22-years-old and operating in the exact position Wenger needs we rate this purchase.

2. Moussa Sissoko, Newcastle United

With Alan Pardew having recently left as manager this could be the ideal time to tempt away some of Newcastle’s best players and Sissoko could be the ideal fit at the Emirates.

1. Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton

Topping the pile though is a player who has it all for Wenger; a classy defensive midfielder who is also comfortable on the ball and has an eye for a pass and with proven experience in the English top flight.
