Ten More Realistic January Moves For Arsenal Than Edinson Cavani, Including Premier League Trio & Man United Target

Arsenal have been regularly linked with a move for Edinson Cavani, but would do better to pursue other targets…

According to the Daily Express, Arsenal have received a boost in their hopes of signing £50m rated Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani in a shock January deal. But, with clear gaps in their squad at centre back and holding midfield, would the money be better invested elsewhere.

Here are ten players Arsenal would do better to spend their winter budget on:

10) Tyrone Mings (Ipswich Town)

A very Arsene Wenger signing – still only 21 and likely to be available at a decent price. The 21-year-old has played a major role in helping Ipswich climb the Championship table and is a versatile kind of defender.

9) Hector Moreno (Espanyol)

The Mexican international recently racked up 100 league appearances for Espanyol, and is widely considered as one of the best left footed centre backs in the world. Neighbours Tottenham are also interested in the 26-year-old.

8) Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla)

The 24-year-old Polish international only joined his Spanish employers in the summer after leaving Reims, but his form has already attracted the interest of several of Europe’s big guns, with Arsenal at the head of the queue.

7) Christoph Kramer (Bayer Leverkusen)

Any deal would be complicated by the fact that Kramer is 18 months into a two-year loan deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, but the German World Cup winner has yet to play a game for his parent club, and could be tempted into never doing so.

6) Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle United)

An established Premier League player who has been key to Newcastle’s revival after their poor start to the season. Arguably, he is the best player at United, who would be loathe to lose him in addition to their manager.

5) Winston Reid (West Ham United)

Another current Premier League star, Reid has been vital in the Hammers shock run to the Champions League places, which they now sit just outside of after a difficult Christmas period. Out of contract, and available on the cheap.

4) William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

A long-term target who would surely have to go if anything around the £20m mark was offered. The Portuguese international needs a move to kick-start the next stage of his career, and will want to prove himself against the best.

3) Nabil Fekir (Lyon)

A 21-year-old attacking midfielder who has been key to Lyon’s somewhat unexpected success so far this season. The French side sit second in the league table, ahead of PSG, with Fekir scoring seven times already.

2) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

Has been outstanding so far this season, and like Reid and Sissoko, has been key to his team’s performances in the Premier League. Still young at 25, and a full French international who played at the World Cup.

1) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Looked likely to get away in the summer, but after Dortmund’s horror start to the season, his future has once again been thrown into doubt. Would be an excellent signing that could alleviate some of the pressure at the back.
