Manchester United Roundup: Pogba Identified As No.1 Target, Falcao Deals Moves Closer And More Injury Woes

Friday’s biggest stories for the Red Devils.

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba becomes Manchester United’s No.1 transfer target

The former Red Devils youth player could be making a sensational return to Old Trafford in a deal that could cost up to £77m, according to the Daily Star.

After being snubbed by Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo the 13-time Premier League champions have instead turned their attention to Pogba for summer spending.

The France international left the club on a free transfer to join Juve back in 2012.

Radamel Falcao loan deal to be made permanent after proving his fitness

Louis van Gaal has been convinced enough by Falcao that he is over the knee injury that kept him out of action for almost a year.

The 28-year-old is currently on-loan from AS Monaco with a view to a permanent deal and van Gaal is ready to make that happen in the next few days, according to the Metro.

Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes has already met with Monaco president Vadim Vasilyev to push the deal through.

Ashley Young out for a month with a hamstring injury

There is more bad news for United concerning fitness problems as Young was forced off against Stoke City on Thursday and faces four weeks on the sidelines.

Van Gaal’s side drew 1-1 with the Potteries at the Britannia Stadium on New Year’s Day and the Dutchman has revealed the extent of Young’s injury.

“Young has a hamstring problem so he is out for four weeks. I am not a doctor but I imagine it will be like that,” the 63-year-old was quoted by the Sun.

Man United dealt blow in pursuit of Kevin Strootman

Despite having been strongly linked with the AS Roma midfielder for some time it looks as if the Netherlands international is more likely to join FC Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Strootman has previously worked under van Gaal for the Dutch national team and it was thought this would tempt him to Old Trafford, but apparently La Liga is more likely.

“Of course everybody wants to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, but they don’t come looking for you so quickly in the Eredivisie. There are odd exceptions, but in general their scouts tend to look around at higher levels,” the 24-year-old was quoted by the Metro.

Red Devils will reject £18m Juve offer for Juan Mata

It’s been an inconsistent time for Mata at the Theatre of Dreams since joining United from Chelsea almost a year ago in what was then a club record £37.1m deal.

The Spain international struggled to establish himself at first and the reigning Serie A champions were looking to capitalise on this and sign the 26-year-old themselves.

Yet according to the Daily Express with Mata back in the starting XI any offer from La Bianconeri will be rejected.
