Where would the former United youngster fit in to van Gaal’s new look side though?

Here is a Manchester United best XI featuring Paul Pogba:

GK) David de Gea

Arguably the most in form goalkeeper in the world right now, the Spaniard has been sensational for United this season.

RCB) Phil Jones

Van Gaal may look to bring a new centre-back to the club in January, but until he does Jones is likely to be battling with the likes of Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans for a starting spot.

CB) Michael Carrick

If Carrick is pushed out of midfield, he may drop permanently back into defence. He has been one of the more reliable United players this season, and adds stability and experience to the back line.

LCB) Marcos Rojo

Injuries have seen Rojo’s start to life at Old Trafford falter somewhat, but when fit the Argentine seems to be one of the first names on van Gaal’s teamsheet.

RWB) Rafael

Arguably a weak link in a fairly strong lineup, but with Antonio Valencia the only back-up he should keep his place.

CM) Paul Pogba

If van Gaal can pull off this transfer, then the French star could form a superb partnership with Wayne Rooney in midfield. If both players can learn when to drive on and when to hold back to allow their partner to get forward, they could prove a devastating combination.

CM) Wayne Rooney

The captain seems to have found his new home in midfield, and has been excelling when deployed there recently.

LWB) Ashley Young

The Englishman has seen his career revived under the new Dutch manager, and looks to be making the left-wing-back role his own at Old Trafford.

CAM) Angel di Maria

Di Maria was in superb form this season before he was hit by injury. And despite Juan Mata performing admirably in his absence, United’s record signing is unlikely to remain benched.

ST) Robin van Persie

The Dutchman may not be at his best at the moment, but he is still scoring goals and winning games.

ST) Radamel Falcao

On loan from AS Monaco, the Colombian finally starts to be hitting some form after spending most of the season sidelined with injury. If he continues his rise at the club then he is sure to see his loan become permanent at the end of the season.
