Four Liverpool Transfer Targets Who Could Save Their Season – Barcelona Star & Prolific Forward Included

Liverpool have endured a difficult first half of the season, but could a few key signings at Anfield change their fortunes?

The departure of Luis Suarez has hit Liverpool hard this season, and after a fantastic 2013/14 season the Merseyside club are struggling badly in the new campaign.

With the winter transfer window now open, Brendan Rodgers has a chance to make amends for his transfer failings over the summer.

The club are arguably just a few players away from being a superb team once again, and with half a season to go the Reds could still surprise a few people.

Here are four realistic January transfer targets who could save Liverpool’s season:

GK) Mattia Perin – Genoa

With Simon Mignolet failing to make the grade this season, Liverpool badly need to bring in a replacement; or at the very least someone who can challenge the Belgian for the No.1 jersey.

Someone like Petr Cech would be first choice, but with Mourinho unlikely to sanction the move, Brendan Rodgers needs to be more realistic.

Perin has been in phenomenal form this season, and is statistically among the top few keepers in the world. He wouldn’t cost a huge amount, and could save the Merseyside club a huge number of points this season.

CB) Winston Reid – West Ham

Liverpool’s defence has looked shaky at best this season, with £20m summer acquisition Dejan Lovren proving to be a disastrous signing.

With Sam Allardyce recently revealing that Winston Reid no longer has a future at the club, Rodgers could tempt the Hammers boss with a relatively small bid.

Glen Johnson has been going steadily down hill for a while now, and could even be on his way out of the club this January.

Alves would be a short term solution, but he would provide excellent width and a real attacking threat from the right.

With his contract at Barcelona coming to an end, he should come pretty cheaply as well.

ST) Jackson Martinez – FC Porto

The Colombian forward may not be the most likely striker to make the switch to Anfield this January, but he could be exactly what Liverpool need.

His high transfer fee would no doubt be a problem, but the powerful forward is a proven goalscorer, and would add something different to the side once Daniel Sturridge is back and firing.
