We break down the cost of the entire City squad below and see just how much Barkley’s incredibly large transfer fee would impact the overall cost of their world class squad.

GOALKEEPERS:

Joe Hart: £792,000

Bought in 2006 from Shrewsbury Town for nothing short of an absolute bargain.

Willy Caballero: £7.04 million

City’s summer signing from Malaga but has hardly managed a game as he competes with Hart for a starting role.

Richard Wright: Free Transfer

It’s may come as a shock to everyone that Wright is still in the game with the former Arsenal keeper acting as City’s third choice.

ACCUMULATIVE TOTAL COST: £7.96m

DEFENDERS:

Bacary Sagna: Free Transfer

The French right back might hope he’s chosen to stay at the Gunners with his complete lack of game time.

Pablo Zabaleta: £7.66m

Since his move in 2008 has probably developed into the league’s best right back.

Gael Clichy: £6.82m

Clichy just one of a handful of former Arsenal stars in the City squad to make the move from North London – it’s certainly paid off with his two Premier League medals since his 2010 move.

Aleksandr Kolarov: £19.98m

One of City’s first real statements of intent with his multi-million pound deal from Serie A’s Lazio.

ACCUMULATIVE TOTAL COST: £42.42m

Martin Demichelis: £4.4m

Moved to Manchester at the same time as current boss Manuel Pellegrini from Spanish side Malaga.

Matija Nastasic: £13.38m

The youngster potential was reflected in his steep transfer fee at just 19 years old.

Vincent Kompany: £7.48m

Kompany is one of a dying breed at City of players there before Sheikh Mansour’s takeover but don’t let his relatively small fee fool you, he’s almost priceless.

Eliaquim Mangala £35.2m

Summer signing from Porto has hardly lived up to the billing and struggled to justify his incredibly high transfer cost.

ACCUMULATIVE TOTAL COST: £102.88m

MIDFIELD:

Fernando: £13.2m

Another of City’s summer signings but has probably fared the best of the big names brought into the Etihad this summer.

Fernandinho: £35.2m

A lynchpin in the City midfield but who struggled for form at the beginning of this season

Yaya Toure: £26.4m

Seems to be the beating heart of the side and the star they look to when the going gets tough.

Frank Lampard: Loan From New York City

Let go by Chelsea in the summer who will surely be ruing the error of their ways as he wins City points after points.

James Milner £19.36m

Labelled as an unexciting midfielder but would be a welcome addition to any side after making the utility role an art form.

Samir Nasri £24.20m

Struggled to adapt in his first season but a City favourite and star of the side.

David Silva £25.3m

Silva’s role is hard to pin down as he seems to do so much for the side and is vital to City’s lofty ambitions.

ACCUMULATIVE TOTAL COST: £246.54m

FORWARDS:

Jesus Navas: £17.6m

Hit and miss first season but crucial to City’s rapid style of play.

Scott Sinclair: £6.86m

The reasons behind his move to the Etihad are still a mystery to this day, will wish he had stayed at Swansea after several seasons on the bench.

Steven Jovetic: £22.88m

Injury prone maybe but he’s still scored some valuable goals in his time at the Etihad

Sergio Aguero: £39.6m

It can’t be understated just how much Sergio Aguero means to City’s ambitions to be one of the best clubs, if not the best, in the world.

In fact you might say his transfer fee is too low considering all his goals have done for City’s history!

Edin Dzeko: £32.56m

Another who hasn’t exactly set the world alight during his time in manchester but his run of scoring when City have needed a goal has made him a firm favourite of the Etihad faithful.

ACCUMULATIVE TOTAL COST: £365.96m +£45m Barkley = £410.96m

In total, City’s total squad should they sign Barkley would essentially have cost them £410.96m to put together, a truly gargantuan amount.

It’s still unclear if the move would ever come off but you can see how much potential the Everton midfielder is thought to have with the silly figures being touted as his potential transfer fee.
