The 20-year-old has just returned to Stamford Bridge following a loan spell at relegation candidates Burnley, where injuries hampered his development.

He was restricted to just four appearances for the newly promoted side, and failing to start a single game during his six months at the club.

Having enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Watford two seasons ago, Chalobah has so far failed to reach the levels expected of him. Although at one point the England Under-21 star looked capable of breaking into Chelsea’s first team, he now looks dangerously close to slipping into mediocrity.

A move away from the Premier League may benefit the youngster, with regular first team football far more likely at Bordeaux.
