5. Alex Song, West Ham United (on-loan from FC Barcelona)

It looked as if Song made the wrong choice in 2012 when he left the Emirates Stadium for the Nou Camp, but a shrewd loan move from the Hammers this term has revitalised them and the midfielder.

Song has been key in Sam Allardyce’s team as they currently sit seventh in the Premier League table.

4. Robin van Persie, Manchester United

His class was of course well appreciated by Arsene Wenger, but back in 2012 the striker did the unthinkable and completed a £24m move to the side’s great rivals Man United.

Van Persie hasn’t been quite as prolific for the Red Devils since that first campaign, but his goals remain an important part of the team’s firepower.

3. Lukasz Fabianski, Swansea City

Having been backup at the Emirates for seven years the Poland international finally decided he needed to prove himself and turned down a new contract to take the No.1 jersey at the Liberty Stadium this summer.

Since then the goalkeeper has helped the Swans to a solid 2014/15 and with 24 goals conceded they have one of the better defences in the division.

2. Gervinho, AS Roma

Was something of a laughing stock for the North Londoners as although the Ivory Coast international showed glimpses of supreme talent, he also made shocking mistakes all too often.

Yet since arriving in the Italian capital in 2013 the forward has played a key part in Roma’s revival under Rudi Garcia and this season has seven goals and four assists in all competitions.

1. Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea

Yet the undisputed winner of the award for best former player has to be this Spain international, who also left for Barca – although back in 2011 – and failed to truly establish himself, before the Blues controversially signed him over the summer.

It emerged that Wenger had turned down Fabregas and with four goals and 17 assists already this term the Frenchman is likely to live to regret that decision.
