FA Cup 3rd Round Best XI: Arsenal Ace & Liverpool Summer Target Star

Which players performed the best in the cup competition?

The FA Cup 3rd Round may not have thrown up many big name shocks that we all know and love but it certainly provided some stand out performances from English football’s best players.

We look at the best side available from the star performers of this round of fixtures.

GK: Costel Pantilimon (Sunderland)

Deserved his clean sheet after making some important stops in the second half and ensured a 1-0 victory for the Black Cats.

LB: Patrick van Aanholt (Sunderland)

Another from Tyneside to make it into the XI and van Aanholt was exceptional from the back – getting forward to great effect and smashing in a brilliant winner

CB: James Collins (West Ham)

Scored a great goal from an Amalfitano corner and was a strong and sturdy presence from the back and dominant in the air.

CB: Scott Dann (Crystal Palace)

Incredibly, scored twice from centre back and ensured Alan Pardew got off to a winning start as the boss with the Eagles.

RB: Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

Another assured performance from the much underrated Spaniard, his cross set up the Blues third goal.

CM: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Led Liverpool to victory over AFC Wimbledon when they could have easily folded.

LM: Ander Herrera (Manchester United)

An spectacular opener cooled the Manchester United nerves and set them up for their win at Yeovil Town.

RM: James Milner (Manchester City)

Scored twice to help the Premier League giants maintain their good run of form, despite going 1-0 down to the lower league side.

RW: Jamal Campbell-Ryce (Sheffield United)

Doubled Sheffield’s lead over Premier League opposition QPR and added a third in injury time to ensure a famous win for the Blades.

CF: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Not for the first time this season Sanchez was the difference for Arsenal. It’s terrifying to think of where the Gunners would be without him.

LW: Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion)

Scored four goals for the Baggies in their 7-0 rout over Gateshead.
