Player ratings as the Blues win at a canter.
Chelsea went two points clear at the top of the the Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Oscar and Diego Costa secured a comfortable victory despite the Blues looking under par for most of the match.
The win sees them open up a gap at the top of the table after Manchester City only manage a 1-1 draw with Everton and drop two points at Goodison Park.
Here’s how the Chelsea players fared in their easy win:
Petr Cech – 8
A late change saw Cech come in for an injured Courtois but showed his expected class with a number of good stops.
Branislav Ivanovic – 6
Lacked a bit of his usual quality on the ball but his low cross found Oscar for the opener and marshalled his flank well.
Kurt Zouma – 7
Looked comfortable on the ball in what was his first Premier League start and was rarely under pressure from Newcastle’s forwards.
John Terry – 5
Was dominant as usual in the air but was increasingly suspect on the ground with Sissoko and Cabella both dominating him in the first half and a goal looking like it would likely come from his mistake.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 5
Went off injured during the second half but was hardly an attacking threat on the wings and was continually pegged back by Cabella.
Cesc Fabregas – 7
Not his best game and there wasn’t any defence splitting paces as we’ve come to expect but got his side forward down the wings with some great balls to Hazard.
Nemanja Matic – 6
Had a fierce battle with Sissoko in the middle which allowed Newcastle’s forwards the chance to get forward and made Mourinho increasingly irate. His influence grew in the game but could have put his side in trouble with a booking.
Willian – 5
Display his usual charismatic energy but lacked precision and finesse going forward. However it was his genius which led to the opening goal, taking a corner short to set the move off.
Oscar – 6
Wasn’t particularly sharp in the first half despite his goal and although he set up Costa in the second half his poor performance saw him subbed for Ramires towards the end of the match.
Eden Hazard – 7
Not his best game as with so many of his teammates this match, but still showed the occasional glimpses of his immense class using his tricks and skills to make the Newcastle defence look a tad silly.
Diego Costa – 7
Needed time to get into the match although to be fair to the striker the service was poor. Was clinical when he slotted away Chelsea’s second and could have had a third after a delightful foray forward.
