Lampard was alleged to only have signed until the end of December.
The storm surrounding reigning Premier League champions Manchester City has deepened, report the Sun, with City having come clean and admitted that their deal to sign former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard had been until the end of the season all along – despite City announcing the deal as one that would only run until the end of December.
City even announced recently that the deal had been extended until the end of the campaign but, under pressure from the Premier League, the Etihad Stadium outfit have now come out and admitted the facts regarding their deal to bring Lampard to the club for the 2014/15 campaign.
It had been suggested that Lampard was only with City for a short term period, until January and the reconvening of Major League Soccer, where he is due to turn out for new expansion franchise New York City FC – but such a deal would actually have been in contravention of Premier League rules.
Supporters of the new club in the Big Apple are furious with developments, having bought season tickets on the basis that Lampard would be turning out from the beginning of the campaign, with no party coming out of the debacle looking well.
