The Mexican unfortunately broke his leg during the 2014 Brazil World Cup and has spent the majority of this season on the sidelines.

However, his sterling performances before his injury caught the interest of a number of sides including Spurs, who now look set to return for the Mexico international.

Moreno may be aware of the speculative interest from England, with Marca claiming the centre-back has rejected a lucrative offer from Russia as he seeks a move to either the Premier League or Bundesliga – however, it’s unclear whether the move would happen in January or the summer.

Mauricio Pochettino targeted a top defensive signing in the last transfer window, but had to settle with Federico Fazio after failing in his attempts for more accomplished signings.

However, without Moreno’s leg injury, the chances of a deal for the 26-year-old would have mostly gone through.
