Brendan Rodgers side go to the Stadium Light in eight place, seven points off from the top four after an inconsistent season in the Premier League.

The Belgian returns to his former club on the brink of a Liverpool exit, knowing that whatever happens he will most likely exit the club he joined just a season and a half ago.

The German has taken up a new role in the Liverpool defence following his extended spell out injured and looks to be finally finding the form to become a key part of the side.

CB: Martin Skrtel

The Slovakian has taken up the mantle as one of the leaders of his side, particularly the defence, since the sale of Daniel Agger and will help marshal his young teammates once again

LCB: Mamadou Sakho

The 24 year old has returned to the Liverpool first team at the right time and has allowed them the freedom to use their 3-4-3 formation to great effect.

RWB: Jordan Henderson

The England midfielder will start from his now accustomed position against his boyhood side and will hope for a good display to show he made the right move in leaving Sunderland.

CM: Steven Gerrard

Liverpool’s captain was the hero against AFC Wimbledon and will be looking to rally his side to another victory, Gerrard will want to make it a memorable end to his last season as a Red.

CM: Lucas Leiva

Rodgers may want a more assured midfield as his side travel away from Anfield and so could explore the option of Leiva and Gerrard in midfield together to provide more cover to his three central defenders.

LWB: Alberto Moreno

Moreno has been the more successful of the Reds Spanish, summer, full-back signings and will be picked over Manquillo despite the latters impressive efforts against Wimbledon in the FA Cup 3rd round.

RW: Lazar Markovic

It was a terrible start to his career at Anfield but the former Benfica man has had a resurgence of sorts over the last month or so and looks to be building his stock with Liverpool and developing into a dangerous attacking outlet.

CF: Raheem Sterling

Another start from the more advance striking position for Sterling who returns to the first XI after his mini-winter break – looks to be getting to grips with the centre forward role.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

Has been a crucial part of the Liverpool side in their festive fixture list, even winning their Player of the Month award for December. He won’t be rested against the Black Cats as Rodgers searches for another crucial three points.
