The Reds lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona over the summer and have since struggled for goals due to the disappointing form of summer signings Balotelli and Rickie Lambert.

Having signed for £16m from AC Milan, Balotelli has been the biggest disappointment this season, failing to score a single Premier League goal and recently losing his place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Sampdoria are now said to be interested in the struggling 24-year-old, while Liverpool have set their sights on two replacement signings in what could be an exciting new strike pair upfront for the Merseyside giants in the near future.

1) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

A £30m target, Argentine goal-getter Gonzalo Higuain is firmly on Liverpool’s agenda after impressing in Serie A and previously at Real Madrid, where he notably became a target for other Premier League clubs.

2) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)

Secondly, Liverpool are also set to try their luck with a £15m bid to sign Aston Villa powerhouse Christian Benteke, who could be a fine partner to complement Higuain’s style of play. The Belgian international recently returned from a long injury layoff and looks to be back on the radar of big clubs once again.
