Liverpool transfer news

Brendan Rodgers has a big task on his hands to replace some under-performing stars, two of which are failed signings made in the summer transfer window prior to this season.

Liverpool are now looking at two big-name Serie A players to come in in midfield and attack, plus another transfer deal this month to ensure they are better equipped to finish this season strongly and possibly mount a challenge on the Premier League title next year.

Here are the players expected to move in and out of Anfield if the Reds can push these moves through:

Out – Steven Gerrard

A move that has already been agreed, long-serving midfielder and club captain Steven Gerrard will be leaving Liverpool to sign for LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

In – Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)

Coming in to replace Gerrard in midfield could be £25m-rated AS Roma star Miralem Pjanic, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United in the past after his fine performances in Serie A.

Out – Mario Balotelli

After failing to impress since his £16m summer move from AC Milan, Mario Balotelli could be quickly shipped out by Liverpool this month as Juventus emerge as the latest suitors for the controversial Italian international.

In – Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

Lined up as the ideal replacement upfront for the struggling Balotelli, Liverpool could move for £30m-rated Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain in a superb double raid on Serie A.

Out – Rickie Lambert

Wanted by the likes of Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, it looks as though Liverpool could be about to offload another failed summer signing in Rickie Lambert, who has done little since his move from Southampton.

In – Divock Origi (Lille)

Liverpool hope to pay an extra £3m on top of what they have already paid to sign Lille striker Divock Origi as they look to push his arrival at Anfield forward to this January, despite initially loaning him back to the French side for the rest of this season.
