Liverpool Target Saido Berahino Happy To Stay At West Brom

Tony Pulis searching for a partner for Berahino rather than a replacement.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis is searching for an effective partner for top scorer Saido Berahino, rather than a replacement, with the Mirror reporting that the England Under 21 international is happy to stay at The Hawthorns and will not be looking to push for a move to Liverpool.

Berahino scored another goal for The Baggies at the weekend as he lashed home a late free kick to secure a priceless three points against Hull City in Pulis’ first league game in charge of the club, but the ineffectual performance of Brown Ideye, who missed an early sitter, is likely to motivate Pulis to enter the market in search of a partner for Berahino.

The young striker has been heavily linked with Liverpool despite an odd season at West Brom during which he has been criticised for his behaviour away from the pitch, despite his goals on it, even being dropped by Pulis’ predecessor Alan Irvine.

The report suggests that Berahino may feel that he is being victimised, with even his hat-trick against non-league side Gateshead in the FA Cup last weekend attracting criticism due to Berahino’s decision not to exuberantly celebrate the goals, something alluded to by the youngster’s comments following the Hull victory:

“But I’m always the one getting blamed and picked out at West Brom. I just smile at it and keep my mouth shut.”

“I celebrated with my sister. But to all my fans out there, I’m just trying to enjoy my football, make everyone happy, keep going forward and maybe one day achieve my dreams.”

“I have big ambitions but at the moment I’m a West Brom player, I’m enjoying my football and I’m contributing goals so I’m happy.”
