Totti has been with Roma for over two decades, and in tribute to the iconic forward, we’ve compiled a list of the ten greatest one-club players past and present. Will the Italian be at number one?

10) Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 2004-Present)

The Argentine was marked down as a one-club man since he walked into Barcelona. Surely they’d never sell a player who has now scored 379 goals in 450 games and won four Ballon d’Or Awards.

9) Jamie Carragher (Liverpool, 1996-2013)

Retired from football in the summer of 2013, after playing 737 games for Liverpool, scoring just five times. Won the FA Cup (twice), League Cup (three times), Champions League and UEFA Cup, but was never able to lift the Premier League title.

8) Iker Casillas (Real Madrid, 1999-Present)

Still only 33, the Spanish stopper has already played 702 games for Madrid, winning every trophy under the sun, while also leading his country to three consecutive major tournament successes.

7) Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona, 1998-Present)

His presences oozes everything associated with Barcelona – classy on the ball with supreme passing ability – Xavi might be 34 now, but he can still change a game. Has played 742 games for Barca, while he also appeared 61 times for the ‘B team’.

6) Matthew Le Tissier (Southampton, 1986-2002)

Remained loyal to Southampton throughout his career, playing 539 times and scoring 209 goals, almost a quarter of which came from the penalty spot. Helped the Saints maintain their Premier League status, but earned just eight England caps.

5) Carles Puyol (Barcelona, 1999-2014)

The iconic, curly-haired leader of both Barcelona and Spain’s dominance over the last decade, both team’s have gone downhill since he hung up his boots last year. Played 593 games for his club side, scoring 18 times.

4) Paolo Maldini (AC Milan, 1985-2009)

Probably the greatest full-back of all time, Maldini won it all with Milan, playing 902 games, scoring 33 goals, and ensuring that he would forever go down in Italian folk lore by having his shirt number retired.

3) Ryan Giggs (Manchester United, 1990-2014)

The Welsh star played 963 games for United, scoring 168 times before retiring at the end of the last season. Now in a coaching role alongside manager Louis van Gaal. A club legend who, like Maldini, won it all at club level.

2) Francesco Totti (Roma, 1992-Present)

Has played 725 games for Roma, scoring 296 goals and creating 185 more via assists. Won Serie A once, while he has also been a runner-up on seven occasions. Also part of the 2006 World Cup winning side.

1) Rogerio Ceni (Sao Paulo, 1989-Present)

Has played an extraordinary 1185 games for the club in all competitions and, despite being a goalkeeper, has scored 123 times via set pieces. In 2005, he managed to find the net 21 times in 75 appearances. Has also earned 16 caps for Brazil.
