The Frenchman has still picked a pretty incredible side, with players from Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona making the team.

GK) Gianluigi Buffon

The Italian has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world for almost two decades.

RB) Cafu

The Brazilian was known for his exciting runs forward, and is also the most capped player ever for his nation.

LB) Roberto Carlos

The former Real Madrid man had a great ability from set pieces, and his goal against France will be remembered for a long time.

CB) Fabio Cannavaro

One of the few defensive players to have ever won the Ballon d’Or, and captained Italy to the World Cup in 2006.

CB) Lillian Thuram

France’s most capped international, and a versatile player who was great all across the back line.

CM) Gaizka Mendieta

Probably one of the only former Middlesbrough players to have ever made it in to an all time XI, the midfielder was a good player but it is surprising to see him in such company.

CM) Claude Makelele

Almost created a new position as the midfielder who shields the defence, and was loved for his hard tackling and no nonsense style.

CAM) Zinedine Zidane

Zizou is a legend amongst the most talented players to have ever  played the game, and it is no surprise that he is in a fellow Frenchman’s all time XI.

LW) Lionel Messi

The Argentine has won the Ballon d’Or a record four times, and is in the debate to be named the greatest of all time.

RW) Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo was named the Ballon d’Or winner on Monday night, and is another who has transcended his era. It is unusual that him and Messi are on the opposite sides to what they usually are though.

ST) Ronaldo

The original Ronaldo was a great striker, and a hero at Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
