Top Ten Premier League Transfer Flops – Radamel Falcao Breaks Into List After Man United’s Southampton Snub

On loan Monaco star Radamel Falcao has failed to make the expected impact since joining Manchester United, and is beginning to look like another one of the club’s transfer failures…

Radamel Falcao was mysteriously excluded from the Manchester United squad during his side’s loss against Southampton on Sunday, and Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal insists that injury has nothing to do with it. Although the Colombian has shown glimpses of brilliance during his time at Old Trafford, his injuries and unexplained absences could soon see him discarded and labeled a flop.

Here are ten of the Premier League’s worst ever flops:

10) Radamel Falcao – Monaco to Manchester United

It’s unclear yet whether the former Atletico Madrid man will be a flop at Manchester United, but Louis van Gaal is sure to be glad that he is only on loan for the moment.

Injuries have plagued the clinical forward since his Old Trafford arrival, and his exclusion on Sunday only fuels speculation that he could be on his way out.

9) Emmanuel Adebayor – Arsenal to Manchester City

The former Arsenal striker made a £25m move to Manchester City back in 2009, and has gone down hill ever since. He struggled to make the grade at the Etihad, but his monstrous wages made him difficult to shift.

8) Bebe – Vitoria de Guimaraes to Manchester United

Famously signed in 2010 by Sir Alex Ferguson who had never actually seen him play, Bebe never looked good enough to play for Manchester United, and was finally offloaded to Benfica last year.

7) Stewart Downing – Aston Villa to Liverpool

Downing may be excelling at West Ham at the moment, but his £20m move to Liverpool was an unmitigated disaster. He failed to register a single goal or assist in his entire first season at Anfield, and was eventually offloaded for a fraction of the amount they signed him for.

6) Francis Jeffers – Everton to Arsenal

It was difficult to predict that Francis Jeffers would prove to be one of the worst ever Premier League signings, with the youngster scoring with regularity at Everton.

He struggled badly at Arsenal however, and will go down as a massive mistake by Arsene Wenger.

5) Sebastian Veron – Lazio to Manchester United

An absolutely world class player, but somehow never settled in Manchester.

He occasionally showed his quality at Old Trafford, but never came close to justifying his £28.1m price tag; which was astronomical considering it was in 2001.

4) Mario Balotelli – AC Milan to Liverpool

How Liverpool thought controversial striker Mario Balotelli could even come close to replacing Luis Suarez is a mystery, with the Italian forward failing to score a single Premier League goal since joining last summer.

3) Andriy Shevchenko – AC Milan to Chelsea

Another player who is undeniably talented, the Ukrainian was mysteriously a complete flop at Chelsea.

He ended up moving back to Serie A, where he found some remnants of his old form.

2) Andy Carroll – Newcastle to Liverpool

Carroll gets a lot of stick over his £35m move to Liverpool, but the West Ham man was set up to fail.

The former Newcastle target man is not a bad striker by any means, but not only is he worth nowhere near £35m, he just wasn’t suited to Liverpool’s playing style either.

1) Fernando Torres – Liverpool to Chelsea

Unquestionably the biggest waste of money to date, Chelsea’s £50m acquisition of Fernando Torres could not possibly have gone any worse.

Given ample time to play himself into some form, the Spaniard never impressed at Stamford Bridge. He has never shown even glimpses of the form he once displayed at Liverpool, and has now returned to Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
