Check out the 10 strikers below – do you think Bony can live up to his £28m price-tag?

10. Didier Drogba – £24m -Marseille to Chelsea

A Stamford Bridge legend, Didier Drogba returned to the Blues in the summer following a brief spell away from the club at Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray, and was given a hero’s welcome on his return.

Drogba is fourth on the list of Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorers with 163 netted for the West London outfit.

9. Wayne Rooney – £25.6m – Everton to Manchester United

An 18 year old Wayne Rooney handed in a transfer request to force a move from his boyhood club Everton to the Red Devils, and was the highest fee ever paid for a player under 20 years old.

Now Manchester United and England captain, the 29 year old has had an outstanding career at Old Trafford, very much living up to the high hopes placed on him.

Rooney is third on the list of Manchester United’s all-time scorers, and it is only a matter of time before the striker breaks Sir Bobby Charlton’s record to become an established legend at the club.

8. Edin Dzeko – £27m – Wolfsburg to Manchester City

The 28 year old has been in and out of the Manchester City side since his arrival in 2010 – but with 69 goals to his name, the Bosnian is a natural goalscorer.

Unfortunately for Dzeko, he is competing with the world-class Sergio Aguero who, when not injured, cannot stop scoring.

7. Romelu Lukaku – £28m – Chelsea to Everton

A sensational amount of money for Everton to have spent on one player, even if the 21 year old impressed on loan last season.

The Belgian’s form has been indifferent this season, with the striker even being dropped over the festive period; the Chelsea flop certainly has an awful lot to prove to the Toffees.

6. Dimitar Berbatov – £30.75m – Tottenham to Manchester United

An unusual character in football, Berbatov is well-known for his lethargic style of play; yet the 33 year old’s ability is incontestable.

The Bulgarian netted 56 goals in 149 appearances, including a stunning hat-trick in the 3-2 win over rivals Liverpool.

5. Andriy Shevchenko – £30.8m – AC Milan to Chelsea

Shevchenko himself admitted that his time at Chelsea was the most difficult of his career; the striker was considered a superstar signing for the Blues but lost his goalscoring touch in England.

4. Diego Costa – £32m – Atletico Madrid to Chelsea

A summer signing for Jose Mourinho, and the Spaniard has been outstanding in his first season at the club.

With 15 goals for the Blues already, the Chelsea faithful are delighted to have finally landed themselves a consistent goalscorer after the departure of flop Fernando Torres.

3. Andy Carroll – £35m – Newcastle to Liverpool

A shock transfer on deadline day saw Liverpool sell Fernando Torres for £50m and buy Andy Carroll for £35m, leading many football fans to ask – what were Liverpool thinking?

Carroll struggled to live up to the price tag, and after a loan move to West Ham United made the move permanent in 2013.

At 26 years old, the former Newcastle United star has plenty of years left in the tank to deliver on the pitch.

2. Sergio Aguero – £38m – Atletico Madrid to Manchester City

Sergio Aguero moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2011 with great expectations placed on his shoulders – and boy has he delivered.

With 66 goals in 86 appearances in the league so far, including the winner against QPR in 2012 to clinch the Citizens’ first Premier League title in 44 years; Aguero will forever be remembered as a hero with the blue side of Manchester.

1. Fernando Torres – £50m – Liverpool to Chelsea

Torres was outstanding during his time at Liverpool before injury destroyed his confidence – with the Spaniard netting 173 goals for the Reds in 412 appearances, including a debut goal against Chelsea.

However, following a £50m move to Stamford Bridge in January 2011, Torres’ confidence had diminished; netting just 20 goals in two-and-a-half seasons with the Blues.

A price tag that will go down in history – but one that the former Liverpool star just couldn’t justify.
