Arsenal And Liverpool Absentees Among Nine Premier League Stars Forgotten Due To Injury

You think Arteta and Debuchy have got it bad?

There was a double blow for Arsenal as captain Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy have both been ruled out for three months after undergoing surgery for problems with their ankle and shoulder respectively.

Yet at least the duo have managed to make some impact this season, unlike these nine other Premier League stars who have been forgotten due to their injury issues.

Siem de Jong, Newcastle United

Arrived from Ajax with great promise and impressed in pre-season, but has played just 166 minutes for the Magpies since as a thigh injury sustained in September has ruined his start to life at St James’ Park.

Abou Diaby, Arsenal

The perennial sick note and someone who has come to serve as a metaphor for Arsene Wenger’s constant injuries, but in reality it’s a very sad state of affairs for a midfielder who has played just six times over the past two seasons.

Alejandro Faurlin, QPR

Just as the 2014/15 campaign began this unfortunate Argentine was ruled out for another six to nine months after sustaining his third – and potentially career ending – anterior cruciate ligament injury in as many years.

Jon Flanagan, Liverpool

Much mocked before Brendan Rodgers turned Flanagan into a versatile and vital part of his team last term, but a knee injury means the 22-year-old is yet to play this time out and his Reds side continue to struggle.

Darron Gibson, Everton

Signed from Manchester United in January 2012 and it initially looked to be a shrewd move, but nine appearances over the past two seasons means this 27-year-old is a forgotten figure at Goodison Park.

Libor Kozak, Aston Villa

Signed from Lazio in 2013 this striker scored four goals in 15 matches for Villa in 2013/14, but broke his leg early on in this campaign and has not made a single appearance for Paul Lambert’s men.

Peter Odemwingie, Stoke City

During his peak with West Bromwich Albion this Nigeria international was highly regarded, but has drifted into anonymity during spells with Cardiff City and now Stoke and has played just three times this season and is expected to be out until June with an ACL injury.

Jay Rodriguez, Southampton

Damaging a cruciate ligament really is the bane of a footballers’ career and after being considered one of the best English players in the country last term, Rodriguez has been all but forgotten as his Saints team continue pushing on without him.

Robert Snodgrass, Hull City

You do have to feel for this Scot, who was relegated with Norwich City last campaign and has played just three times for new side Hull after damaging his knee and isn’t expected back in action until May.
