Arsenal Star To Be Dropped For Some Time By Angry Wenger

Ospina will continue ahead of Szczesny.

Things are going from bad to worse for Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as manager Arsene Wenger is set to continue with David Ospina in goal for the foreseeable future, according to the Sun.

The Poland international has not played for the Gunners since the 2-0 Premier League defeat to Southampton on New Year’s Day, with Szczesny accused of smoking in the showers following the game.

Wenger has since insisted that the 24-year-old has been dropped for purely footballing reasons and the stopper’s performance against the Saints was admittedly poor.

However, it seems too coincidental that after sticking by Szczesny for so long the Frenchman has turned on him after his misdemeanour – especially when it is well known how much emphasis the 65-year-old places on health and fitness.

Not that Ospina will be complaining, as after completing a £3m summer switch from Nice the Colombia international was finding it hard to make an impression on the starting XI.

Up until the start of 2015 the 26-year-old had managed just one appearance – a Capital One Cup defeat, also against Southampton – as injuries ruined his chances of being named in Wenger’s starting eleven.

Damian Martinez had been playing in Ospina and Szczesny’s absence, but with the South American now having kept two consecutive clean-sheets his time looks to have finally arrived.
