The 21-year-old Argentine is widely regarded as one of the best attacking players in Serie A at the moment, having impressed with nine goals in 17 appearances for Palermo this term.

Dybala has been linked with a move to England in the past, and it now looks as though United may be his main suitors and a deal could be on to sign him in the summer transfer window.

However, Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has ruled out the prospect of selling the in-form striker before that, mentioning that United and other clubs will have to wait to get hold of the player.

“Dybala is worth over €40m (£31m) but I won’t sell him until June,” Zamparini said. “Many foreign clubs asked after him, including Manchester United.

“I told the English side that he is not for sale right now, but we can talk about it again in six months. In my view, he is the best striker in Europe at the moment.”

It could be that Louis van Gaal is looking at Dybala as a potential replacement for misfiring loan star Radamel Falcao.
