Gunners want defender and midfielder this month.
Arsenal are set to pick two out of the following seven transfer targets to bring to the club in the January transfer window, according to latest reports.

The Gunners are short of quality and depth in both of these areas, with injuries hitting them hard in midfield this season as the likes of Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere have both faced long spells out.
In defence, Thomas Vermaelen’s departure to Barcelona has left them short of backup options as the likes of Per Mertesacker have not always been on top form this season, while Laurent Koscielny has also struggled with injury, leaving untested youngster Calum Chambers to play an unexpected amount of games in that position, while Nacho Monreal has also filled in out of position in the centre.
Still, Arsene Wenger has identified seven players he could look to bring to the club this January, with only two of these targets likely to be brought in…
1) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)
A player in fine form this season, it is no surprise to see that Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is one of Arsenal’s top targets to solve their troublesome defensive midfield position.

2) Mario Suarez (Atletico Madrid)
With Schneiderlin perhaps an unrealistic target until the summer, Arsenal are also considering a loan move to sign Atletico Madrid ace Mario Suarez until the end of the season, allowing the Gunners to try again for Schneiderlin in the summer.
3) Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla)
Another La Liga-based midfielder catching the eye is Sevilla’s Polish international Grzegorz Krychowiak, who has impressed greatly at Sevilla since joining the club this season.
4) Winston Reid (West Ham United)
One of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, Winston Reid has been linked with a move away from West Ham United this month and Arsenal are one of many clubs interested.
5) Tyrone Mings (Ipswich Town)
A talented youngster plying his trade with Ipswich Town in the Championship, Tyone Mings is also on Arsenal’s radar, though he is supposedly not a priority until the summer.
6) Hector Moreno (Espanyol)
A player linked with moves to the Premier League in the past, Espanyol centre-back Hector Moreno is another option being considered to tighten up at the back.
7) Gabriel Paulista (Villarreal)
Finally, Arsenal are also said to be looking at Villarreal’s in-form defender Gabriel Paulista as another contender to come in and strengthen their struggling defence.
