Blues looking to bring Alvaro Arbeloa back to the Premier League.
Chelsea are looking to beat Liverpool to the signing of former Anfield favourite and current Real Madrid full back Alvaro Arbeloa, report the Express, with Jose Mourinho believing that he can prise the experienced right back away from the Bernabeu in January for a relatively small fee, adding depth to his Stamford Bridge squad.
Liverpool had been linked with a move to bring Arbeloa back to Anfield, where he enjoyed a successful stint after being signed by former manager Rafa Benitez from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna, although Mourinho is now looking to move in and put a stop to that particular rumour.
The Portuguese is said to enjoy a good relationship with Arbeloa, who he managed during his time at the Bernabeu, and he sees him as an intelligent and cost effective addition to his side in January.
Arbeloa has been the first choice right back at Real Madrid for most of his time at the club since arriving from Liverpool, but the emergence of youngster Dani Carvajal from the club’s youth team has seen Arbeloa pushed back to the sidelines.
