Man United Deny Having Made £27m Offer For Centre Back Nicolas Otamendi

Earlier reports had suggested that the Red Devils were interested in the Valencia star.

Manchester United have denied any suggestions that they have launched a £27m move for highly rated Valencia central defender Nicolas Otamendi, report the Mirror, despite reports earlier today have claimed that the Red Devils were targeting the Argentina international as the solution to their central defensive woes.

Otamendi only joined La Liga outfit Valencia in the summer from Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica, but he has been exceptional at the heart of defence for the club, which has led to some suggestions that he could be set to move on after just six months at the Mestalla to one of the Europe’s biggest clubs.

The report suggests that Valencia had confirmed that they had received a bid to the tune of £27m for Otamendi, but declined to name the club, leading to fevered speculation that it could be United – a suggestion that has been refuted by “senior United sources”

United have been linked with numerous central defenders this season on account of the troubles at the back for Louis van Gaal’s side, who have seen the likes of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo struggle with form, fitness or a combination of both at times this season.
