The Red Devils brought in Marcos Rojo during the summer after losing experienced duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, but van Gaal is still looking out for more new names after his summer spending spree.

Despite the arrival of Rojo, United mostly brought in midfielders and attackers such as Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Ander Herrera, and have looked short defensively at times this season.

Youngsters Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair have notched up a surprising number of first-team appearances, and United will now hope to bring in two more established stars in potentially big-money deals.

The two targets are as follows:

1) Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)

According to the Daily Star, Paris Saint-Germain starlet Marquinhos is one of the player’s on United’s agenda after some impressive performances in Ligue 1. The Brazilian has also been highly rated since catching the eye in Serie A with previous club AS Roma, and could be a good fit at Old Trafford.

2) Gerard Pique (Barcelona)

According to the Daily Express, United are also looking into signing one of their former players with a £15m move for Barcelona’s Gerard Pique. The experienced Spanish international is also wanted by Chelsea, and seems a bargain if this source’s valuation is to be believed.
