Eight Footballers More Selfish Than Kevin Mirallas, Including Former Chelsea And Manchester United Stars

The Belgian ruined Everton’s chances against West Brom…

Everton star Kevin Mirallas has been accused of selfishness following an incident against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.

The Belgian took the ball from regular penalty taker Leighton Baines for a spot kick in the first half and went on to miss. The Toffees drew the match 0-0.

However, he is not the only footballer to have been accused of selfishness. Here are eight others who are undeniably in it for themselves, to varying degrees of success…

8) Carlos Tevez

The Argentinian famously refused to come off the bench for Manchester City against Bayern Munich and then ran away to his home country for the following six months while they were in the middle of a title challenge.

His selfishness off the pitch is not replicated on it though, with Tevez known for his endless running and sacrifice when in the side.

7) Robinho

The forward has made a career of running at defenders and shooting when there are far better options available. He is also known for being self centred off the pitch, with his move to Manchester City made infamous for the fact that he thought he was going to rivals Manchester United

6) Nicklas Bendtner

“Lord” Bendtner has become famous for his behaviour on and off the pitch, with his inability to back up his own massive claims a big part of it. The Dane hasn’t helped himself by looking lazy and unlikely to help any teammates when he is on the pitch either.

5) Nicolas Anelka

Known as “Le Sulk” for his attitude when he doesn’t get his own way, the former Chelsea man undoubtedly has talent but not the mindset to go with it. His time at West Brom was especially notable for the way in which he only tried when he thought he could score, and didn’t care for his team.

4) Cristiano Ronaldo

The former Manchester United man is so good that his his selfishness doesn’t matter, and has actually had the entire Real Madrid team built around it. However, it does cause a stir sometimes, such as recently when he moaned after Gareth Bale didn’t pass to him.

3) Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Another who is good enough to get away with his own self centred play, the Swede cannot deal with it when he is not the main man. When he moved to a team of superstars at Barcelona he promptly fell out with everyone and had to leave within a year.

2) Hatem Ben Arfa

A case of what could have been? If Ben Arfa had ever defended or passed the ball then maybe he wouldn’t have fallen out with every manager he has ever had. He may also be doing better than playing in Newcastle United’s reserves.

1) Arjen Robben

Robben comes out on top, and mostly because of an interview where he once claimed “selfishness is a quality.” Maybe that explains why he constantly cuts in and shoots, rather than cross to those calling for it in the box.
