The Five Most Disappointing Premier League Stars So Far This Season: Man United Flops And Goal Barren Liverpool Loser All Included

Five players that have not lived up to their potential this term.

This season there seems to have been an increase in the amount of players not living up to the expectations placed on them in the Premier League. A lot of money has been spent and several names should be on a mission to prove themselves before being cast off as ‘has beens’. It’s been tough, but we’ve condensed the names down to a final five.

Manchester United transfer news

Tom Cleverley – Aston Villa (on loan from Manchester United)

El Clevs was once a United graduate with a fledgling England career ahead of him, however, the buzz faded and he found himself as a scapegoat for the club’s troubles under David Moyes. Last summer he was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa where he was tipped to rediscover the form that once made him so exciting in the West Midlands.

Though it may be harsh to judge him based on Villa’s season, he has done so little that even their long suffering fans want to do a whip round to fund his taxi back to Manchester as soon as possible.

Simon Mignolet – Liverpool

You’d imagine that Mignolet would be great by default. A Belgian international that plays for Liverpool surely means there is a high degree of quality there.

However, he has consistently let himself, his teammates, and his fans down with a series of error laden displays that have contributed to the side failing to build on last season’s title challenge. So bad he was dropped for Brad Jones, and he could be in line for replacement if Brendan Rodgers can get his act together in the transfer market.

Jack Rodwell – Sunderland

After making a name for himself in the Premier League with Everton, the midfielder did what every young player with no common sense does after a short spell of good form.

He joined Manchester City.

He struggled to adapt, failed to breakthrough into the first team, and when he did he often came off injured. His move to Sunderland was meant to be a fresh start, but the Black Cats have been terrible this term and he has been equal to them. Poor.

Mario Balotelli – Liverpool

When you’re brought in to replace a proven predator in front of goal for a fairly chunky fee you’d better make sure to pack your shooting boots.

Balotelli was never prolific during his time at Man City, but his decline this term has been nothing short of alarming. Already being linked with a return to Italy, he has struggled to rediscover any semblance of form, let along recapture the form of his City days.

Radamel Falcao – Manchester United

How long had Premier League fans been waiting to see the Colombian international at one of their clubs? United supporters must have been jumping for joy on transfer deadline day when they’d learnt he would be gracing Old Trafford until the summer, only to now be crying into their cereal at his underwhelming failure to find his feet.

A big sum has been mentioned to turn the deal into a permanent one, but if this kind of form continues he won’t be going anywhere other than back to Monaco.
