Defour is a former Liege player but left the club in 2011 and moved to Porto. However, this summer he returned to Belgian and signed with Liege’s arch-rivals Anderlecht.

And the club’s fans certainly let their former midfielder know what they thought of him with a quite brutal banner unveiled before the match depicting Defour beheaded next to the words: “Red or Dead”.

The game itself was a typically feisty affair and Defour himself was sent off for a second yellow after firing the ball into the crowd in frustration in the second half.

There’s heated rivalries between clubs but you have to wonder if Standard Liege might have taken it just a bit too far…
