Luis Suarez or Diego Costa? Martin Keown Decides Who He’d Rather Have

Popular pundit picks between maverick strikers Diego Costa and Luis Suarez.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has been comparing two controversial South American strikers this week – Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

Both strikers are of top quality, but after the furore surrounding Costa following his apparent stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can, these two goalscorers are ones who play the game on the edge.

Keown has revealed (via Daily Mail), which centre forward he’d rather have in his team.

Well those two don’t always behave as they should, but I think there’s a difference. Costa is a little bit more brutal but I don’t think he’s going to bite anyone. Suarez behaved like a spoiled child.

Costa is just a strong man of the team but he can allow himself to go too far. I think Costa is braver than Suarez. But it’s hard to think of something worse than biting – it’s such a childish act and even kids grow up to realise that’s wrong.

Costa is powerful and aggressive but it’s a slightly different mentality. As for who I’d have in my team, that’s a tough one. I think Suarez is a better player, though. When Costa played for Spain at the World Cup he was non-existent, almost because he wasn’t emotionally fired up.

He needs an edge to get himself playing whereas Suarez came back from a serious knee operation and still showed how much quality he had. I think Suarez is ahead of Costa and if he was playing for Chelsea you would probably see more goals.

But I rate Costa so highly now after his start in the Premier League. But as pure footballers, I think Suarez is better than him.
Suarez scored 31 Premier League goals last term, whilst Costa remains on 17 as he aims to fire to Chelsea to their first league title since 2010.
