Nine Reasons Luis Figo Should Be The Next FIFA President

The Portuguese icon is surely the best man for the job.

Luis Figo has announced his intention to stand in the upcoming FIFA presidential elections and has now confirmed he has submitted the five signatures needed from national football associations to ratify his bid.

Figo is just the latest in a long line of candidates that includes the likes of David Ginola, Jerome Champagne and Michael van Praag – and of course the ever present Sepp Blatter.

But here at CaughtOffside, we think Figo just might be the best man for the job, and here’s why:

He’s young enough to know how to search for things on the internet.

The former Portuguese international said when he Googled FIFA, the first search term that came up was Scandal and he wanted to change this.

Does Sepp Blatter even know what Google is? Doubtful.

…but old enough to be the face of Just For Men.

Don’t let his sleek, coiffed and perfectly even black head of hair fool you, this man has years of life experience.

Supported by Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese great has the backing of another icon from his home country with Jose Mourinho publicly supporting his bid.

And it’s very unlike Jose not to back a winner.

Actually played the game

Unlike Blatter, Figo actually knows the game of football in and out having played the sport at the highest level, becoming one of the most successful Portguese footballers of his time.

Figo enjoyed successful spells at Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona winning a host of accolades and trophies and being crowned the world’s best player in 2000.

Knows how to make the tough decisions

Moving from Barca to Real was clearly going to be contentious but he surely made the right decision winning seven honours during his time with Los Blancos whilst Barcelona’s success dried up.

Would most likely publish the Garcia report

Figo has spoken of how FIFA’s refusal to release the Michael Garcia report to the public was a key reason he decided to put forward his name for the presidency.

And you’d therefore expect he would be open to publishing the highly contentious findings of Garcia’s investigation into allegations of corruption in the World Cup 2018 and 2022 bids.

Doesn’t care about being unpopular

This is a man who had a pigs head thrown at him during El Classico after his aforementioned move between La Liga’s two biggest clubs and barely flinched.

Bringing the sexy back to FIFA

Does this need any explanation?

But probably the best reason Luis Figo should be the next FIFA president is that he can hardly be worse than this guy…
