City were behind for a matter of minutes before David Silva equalised late in the first half and Pellegrini’s men truly dominated in the second but couldn’t find the winning goal.

Here’s how we thought City fared below:

GK: Joe Hart – 6

Wasn’t tested at all in the second half and could do nothing about Chelsea’s opener.

RB: Bacary Sagna – 6

A rare start but looked composed considering the amount of time he’s spent on the bench and was useful at keeping Hazard at bay.

CB: Vincent Kompany – 7

Could have done better for Chelsea’s opener but was typically robust and gallivanting around the field to snuff out numerous attacks from Mourinho’s side.

CB: Martin Demichelis – 6

Calm, collected but fell asleep for the Chelsea opener.

LB: Gael Clichy – 5

Had some slack touches and was found out of position at time but put in a decent enough shift.

CM: Fernandinho – 5

Had a great effort early in the second half but frustrated Pellegrini by giving away the ball with some loose passes in the first 45 minutes.

CM: Fernando – 6

Looked much more comfortable than against Arsenal and kept the Chelsea attack at bay providing a solid base in the City midfield.

RM: Jesús Navas – 4

His awful corner hitting the first man in stoppage time as City hunted for a winner summed his sub-par game up.

CAM: David Silva – 7

His genius was key to City equalising so soon after Chelsea’s opener and was at the heart of Pellegrini’s side best attacking play.

LM: James Milner – 6

Was as competent as you expect and kept City ticking over. Tried his luck with a shot late on but couldn’t break the deadlock.

ST: Sergio Aguero – 6

Still searching for his magic since his injury comeback but played a big part in the opening goal with his shot that was redirected by Silva.
